I often think about the idea of "making something out of nothing.' The "something" does have content, power, authority--and though it is hard to describe or pin down--it does guide you through. (perhaps with quite a few side trips!)<BR/><BR/>There is also the idea in this question that at some point, you do grasp the feeling behind a painting--and I've noticed that sometimes this comes considerably later, after the painting has been finished and is out into the world.
